It's time to embrace Star Wars overload.
In all likelihood, an unprecedented number ofto see the new "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" trailer and get information on buying early tickets to screenings.
Thewas revealed over the weekend for the next installment in the Star Wars franchise, directed by J.J. Abrams. Now we have a fresh Imax poster to enjoy.
AMC Theatres on Tuesday tweeted out a look at the new poster, which glows with orange and dark-red colors and shows the character of Rey and the rolling droid BB8 silhouetted against a desolate landscape.
The stylized illustration of the Imax poster is much different from the poster for the regular theatrical release, which is chock-full of characters ranging from heroes Han Solo and Rey to the mysterious new villain Kylo Ren.
This feels more like a work of art than a marketing device.
The poster is the first in a series destined to be giveaways for Star Wars fans seeing the new film at Imax theaters. A new poster will be revealed each Sunday during the film's run between December 20 and January 10.
Artist Dan Mumford, a freelance illustrator in the UK, has created distinctive takes on iconic characters including Predator, the velociraptors from "Jurassic Park" and the stealthy assassin from Assassin's Creed.
The poster reveal is a clever marketing move. It whets fans' appetites for special collectibles and may encourage repeat Imax viewings as moviegoers attempt to collect them all. Expect to see this beauty framed on many a fan's wall.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters in Europe and Australia on December 17 and on December 18 in the US.
