Star-Lord, Groot and the gang are back for more action-packed space adventure in the new animated series " Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy" on Disney XD.

The cartoon follows the unexpected success of the movie adaption of Marvel's relatively obscure "Guardians of the Galaxy" comic books, which starred Chris Pratt and took nearly $800 million at the global box office. A sequel is planned for 2017.

But right now, fans can check out the gang in action in this first teaser trailer for the animated "Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy."

The new animated show has a different cast to the movies, with Peter Quill/Star-Lord played by Will Friedle, Rocket Raccoon by Trevor Devall, monosyllabic tree Groot by Kevin Michael Richardson (surely the easiest voice acting role ever), Gamora by Vanessa Marshall and Drax the Destroyer by David Sobolov.

The trouble-making gang discovers a strange artifact that can only be opened by Quill's DNA. They find a treasure map leading to a weapon called the Cosmic Seed, which can create the next universe, according to IGN. Of course, being the Guardians of the Galaxy, they must prevent it from getting into the wrong hands, such as galactic gangster boss Thanos, brothers the Collector and the Grandmaster, and legendary trickster Loki.

The new series premieres on Disney XD on September 26 at 9:30 p.m. local time in the US, with a special sneak preview airing on September 5. (Fans in the UK and Australia, check your local Disney XD website for the time and date.)
