The craving for doughnuts can turn mild-mannered humans into insatiable creatures clawing for crullers. Luckily, the creator of Doughbot -- Tim Tolbert -- came to the rescue for those of us who want to find the closest bakery that serves up everything from the classic glazed doughnut to coconut-frosted cronuts.
According to the Doughbot press release, "Tolbert recalls waiting in line for a doughnut at Chicago's famed Doughnut Vault last year when the idea came to him for the first time: Americans need a better way to discover and locate local doughnut purveyors."
While users can't search by type of doughnut yet, the app does find and list the nearest bakeries, then provides both a map with scattered doughnut icons (if you're lucky) within a 20-mile radius, and walking directions via GPS-enabled navigation.
The app also includes information on the bakery (including address and phone number) and most importantly Yelp reviews and Instagram photos of the doughnuts sold.
Currently, the Doughbot app only detects bakeries, not coffee houses and restaurants that also serve delectable doughnuts, so users might miss a few frosted gems out there. But at least travelers, tourists, foodies, and doughnut lovers won't have to look too far for an edible halo near them.
The Doughbot app, which costs 99 cents, is compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. This app requires iOS 6.0 or later, and is optimized for iPhone 5.
