Facebook's big F8 developer conference kicks off Tuesday and a big focus of the event is expected to be bots.

The social network hopes to get us to spend even more time in its Messenger app by baking in more chat bots, which are snippets of software that can perform simple tasks. These chat bots can already order an Uber ride, buy movie tickets and check flight updates right from inside the messaging app.

We also talk about bidding for Yahoo heating up thanks to the UK's Daily Mail jumping in the fray, and Amazon's plans to unveil a new Kindle e-reader, which may include a removable case that recharges.

The 3:59 gives you bite-size news and analysis about the top stories of the day, brought to you by CNET Executive Editor Roger Cheng (currently on parental leave), Senior Writer Ben Fox Rubin and Producer Bryan VanGelder.
