Notify, we hardly knew ye: Facebook shuts down push notification app after 7 months

The social network company had partnered with over 70 outlets for the app, which let users set custom alerts for news, sports, weather and more.

Facebook

Seven months ago, Facebook launched its Notify app. Today, the company announced it would be shutting the app down.

Notify let you set custom alerts for news, sports, weather and myriad other topics. Facebook had partnered with over 70 different publications and news outlets, including CNN, Fox and Vogue.

But the technology powering the app will live on, mainly through Facebook Messenger.

"Starting on Wednesday, we will begin integrating Notify functionality into other Facebook products, like Messenger, and will be removing Notify from the App Store," a Facebook spokesperson said.
