Excite Inbox e-mail down during upgrade

E-mail service for customers of Excite@Home's Web-based Excite Inbox was restored Thursday morning after an outage of approximately 38 hours, according to a representative. A human error was made during the file backup process when the company tried to upgrade its storage technology Tuesday night, the company said. An undisclosed percentage--but not all--of the 20 million active Excite Inbox users were affected, the spokeswoman said. Some e-mail messages sent since June 1, which are currently unavailable to some people, will again be available within days, she said.
