The partnership will deliver client-server solutions for email via the Internet and intranets, instead of the traditional proprietary mail systems. Qualcomm's Eudora software, licensed, distributed, and purchased by companies such as AT&T, Microsoft, Apple, and Netscape, has over 10 million users worldwide.
Under the agreement, Qualcomm will license Software.com's Post.Office server technology for use in Eudora products. The first set of client-server software will run on Windows NT and Unix platforms and will ship in the fourth quarter. Specific feature and pricing have not yet been released.
Post.Office has already been licensed by companies including AT&T WorldNet, Netscape, NetManage and Coordinate.com.
