EE's bid to take control of your TV watching is now officially on sale, with the alliterative operator's set-top box available to buy in EE shops.

The network's family-centric EE TV box -- which has four HD tuners and can beam up to four programmes at once to separate devices -- is free if you're a new or existing EE customer who's paying £9.95 per month or more for the company's broadband plans.

The box gets you access to 70 Freeview channels, as well as on-demand shows from the likes of iPlayer and Demand 5. There's no Netflix app however, and also no sign of Sky's Now TV service.

The market for set-top boxes is getting increasingly competitive, with YouView recently adding Netflix to its service, scoring a point over Sky in the process. EE TV is an ambitious move for the operator, previously known as Everything Everywhere, but when the set-top box was announced last month, industry analyst Paolo Pescatore of CCS Insight noted that EE "has a strong subscriber base to cross sell to."
