eBay sports deal with ticketing company

LiquidSeats and the online auctioneer sign a multiyear agreement that will give eBay members access to concerts, games and other live events.

eBay has teamed up with a provider of ticketing software and services to give its members access to concerts, games and other live events.

The online auctioneer said the multiyear agreement with LiquidSeats would give its some 42 million members access to LiquidSeats' StubHub Network, which includes sites of teams and media companies. San Francisco-based LiquidSeats offers tickets to music and theater events, as well as to professional and college sporting events, through its deals.

As part of the deal, the financial terms of which were not disclosed, eBay will promote StubHub ticket listings on its site. LiquidSeats also has a link on eBay's site to its StubHub Network. LiquidSeats' partners include media companies Gannett, Knight Ridder and The Seattle Times Co., and professional sports teams the Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Clippers.

eBay has been expanding recently to include services as well as goods. In February, the company signed a deal with Priceline.com to offer travel services. Its move into ticketing will provide competition for companies like Ticketmaster, which sells tickets online and is already feeling a crunch from the slowing advertising market.
