'Doctor Strange' trailer drops: Forget everything you think you know

Marvel unveils the trailer for the long-awaited cinematic debut of the Sorcerer Supreme as part of #MarvelWeek.

The doctor is in. The trailer for Marvel's "Doctor Strange" just landed, so you'll excuse us for using just one pun.

It premiered on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in the US Tuesday, and it's our first good look at what Ben Davis, the film's director of photography, has promised will be "Marvel's 'Fantasia.'" Created by Steve Ditko and Stan Lee, Doctor Strange is Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme, and the movie will be our first foray into the mystical side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the movie, Stephen Strange discovers a world of magic and alternate dimensions after he seeks help for serious injuries that cut short his career as a brilliant neurosurgeon. Parts of the movie are filmed in 3D and it promises to be a twisty-turny, mind-bending ride through dimensions. Seriously. Cities are gonna get folded in half, "Inception"-style.

The trailer was teased on Tuesday when Marvel released the movie poster for "Doctor Strange," an atmospheric piece of art that features star Benedict Cumberbatch standing in what appears to be the character's Sanctum Sanctorum.

"Doctor Strange" also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo and Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One. Mads Mikkelsen and Rachel McAdams also appear, though Marvel hasn't said what their roles will be. The film opens October 27 in Australia, October 28 in the UK and November 4 in the US.
