Deals of the day: Cheap digital cameras

Welcome along to the bargain basement! In the first in a series of guides to post-Christmas cheapo gadgets, here are five great value digital cameras

It's the day after Boxing Day, your pockets are jangling from the refunds for all the Jeremy Kyle boxsets and luminous ties you didn't want and you're in the mood for a damn good bargain. In the first in a series of guides to post-Christmas cheapo gadgets, here are five great value digital cameras.

1. Canon IXUS 950 IS, £170 from Amazon
The IXUS has become something of a design classic, so Canon tends to introduce small tweaks to each new model rather than going in for a major overhaul. With this one it upped the sensor to 8.3 megapixels and added the Digic III image processor, which brings with it face detection and a higher top sensitivity of ISO 1,600. Amazon is basically offering the camera at half price, which is a great deal in anyone's book, even if your wallet isn't as fat as it was before Chrimbo. Check out the full review here.

2. Olympus E-510, £500, but then £100 cash back from here
If you're thinking of making the move up to a digital SLR then the E-510 is a good entry-level option, made even better by the fact that Olympus is currently offering £100 cash back for those who buy it by 31 December. Once you've made your purchase you simply complete the online form by 18 January 2008, print it out and send it with your proof of purchase to Olympus to get the cashback sum transferred electronically to your bank account. Read the full review here.

3. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55, £95 from Amazon
The DSC-W55 is part of Sony's budget range of compact snappers, but it still boasts a 7.2-megapixel sensor, 64mm (2.5-inch) screen and 3x optical zoom. It's also finished with a rather sexy brushed-aluminium faceplate. On the high street this shooter will set you back around £120, but with Amazon it's all yours for a touch under a ton. The full review is here.

4. Fujifilm FinePix F50fd, £147 from rankhour.com
We thought the F50fd was brill when we reviewed it back in October, as we found its 12-megapixel sensor helped it produce great pictures in nearly all conditions. The camera usually costs around £190, but now that Rankhour has it on special for just £148 it's even better value for money.

5. Canon PowerShot A460 digital camera and CP730 printer bundle, £80 from Argos
If you were thinking of buying a digital camera and photo printer then you should take a look at this deal from Argos. Neither of the items on their own are real head turners, but what makes them so attractive in this bundle is the price. Argos used to charge £200 for it, but it's now slashed that in half so you can pick up both for an astonishing £80. We reviewed the A460 earlier this year.
