CompUSA offers preorders for Xbox, XP

Retail giant CompUSA has begun taking preorders for two of Microsoft's biggest product launches in years: the Xbox game console and the Windows XP operating system. The Xbox is available for preorder for $299; but to complete an order, shoppers must order at least three games and two accessories, adding at least another $200 to the tab. Orders will be shipped when the Xbox goes on sale Nov. 8, according to the CompUSA site. The business and consumer versions of Windows XP are also available for preorder, ranging from $99 for the upgrade version of Windows XP Home Edition to $299 for the full version of Windows XP Professional. The software goes on sale Oct. 25.
