Networking giant Cisco systems has enlisted the help of Compaq Computer to spur adoption of its package of voice-over-Internet software and hardware. Compaq plans to promote Cisco's Internet-based voice technologies, dubbed Avvid, as part of a strategic alliance. The companies said the partnership on Internet voice products will be the first among several initiatives between them. Cisco also has a high-profile alliance with computing giant Hewlett-Packard.
Compaq will further support Cisco's Avvid technologies through its Compaq Global Services organization. Compaq also plans to use the technology internally at a few company sites worldwide. The PC giant plans to open demonstration centers for the Cisco technologies in Houston; Budapest, Hungary; London; and Munich, Germany.
