"Star Wars" fans proved they're a generous bunch by helping tofor UNICEF Innovation Labs -- the research arm of the UN children's charity.
Last year, "Star Wars: Episode VII" director J.J. Abrams thanked fans on Twitter for their financial contributions for the Star Wars: Force for Change campaign. But as a special treat, the cast and crew of "Star Wars: Episode VII" made a short video thanking fans for their efforts.
Everyone from prop masters to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy says thank you. Even Chewbacca and R2-D2 get in on the act. Abrams also gives another message to fans in the video.
"Because of your incredible support and $1 million contribution from Disney to launch the campaign, we raised an additional $4.26 million dollars that will now directly benefit UNICEF's innovative life-saving programs that support children across the globe," Abrams said in the video. "This means thousands of children around the world will benefit from UNICEF's pioneering efforts to increase access to education, health resources and improve communications during emergencies for those who need it most. May the Force be with you."
