Borland International and Netscape Communications' officials are dismissing published reports that the two are negotiating a merger.

Borland International and Netscape Communications' officials are dismissing published reports that the two are negotiating a merger.

"I have not heard anything to justify that," said Knox Richardson, Borland's chief spokesman. Asked about the acquisition rumor, Netscape spokeswoman Jennifer O'Mahony said, "There's no story."

Netscape and Borland do have a close marketing relationship. On July 29, Netscape and Borland announced joint technology, marketing, and reseller agreements. Borland will resell Netscape's low-end Web server and the developer version of its browser, Navigator Gold, in future Borland products. The companies will also jointly market Borland including IntraBuilder, a web database application development system featuring Netscape's JavaScript 1.1.
