Apple appears to be busy setting up shop at its first retail stores in Mexico and Singapore.
In January, Apple CEO Tim Cook tweeted that the company would be opening up a store in Mexico. Written in Spanish, the tweet translated to: "Hello Mexico! Happy to open a shop soon in your country!"
Progress on the store in Mexico City was spotted in photos obtained by blog sites MacRumors and AppleInsider. The photos reveal the usual Apple-type black construction barrier, this one located on the upper level of Centro Santa Fe, the biggest shopping mall in Latin America, MacRumors said.
The Sante Fe store is expected to be equipped with the necessary space for a Genius Bar, custom wooden cabinets for accessories, the usual wooden tables to display products and an abundant amount of floor space, AppleInsider said. No date has been revealed for the store's opening, though an announcement could come within the next two months, "people familiar with the matter" told AppleInsider.
Apple products are currently available to consumers in many countries only through dedicated websites and third-party retailers. An Apple Store can help boost sales by offering a user-friendly layout, a lineup of products that customers can touch and try out and a team of knowledgeable sales reps.
Apple said last November that it would open up a store in Singapore sometime this year. Photos shared with MacRumors and 9to5Mac show the store's glass facade and canopy in place. No specific date has been set for the store's opening. However, a photo of a construction plate snagged by 9to5Mac pegs October 31 as the completion date, which suggests the doors will open sometime in November.
Beyond the United States, customers can browse Apple Stores in such regions as Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
