Apple and Will.i.am have called for developers to appear in their new reality show, "Planet of the Apps".

Announced in March, the show will follow real-life app creators as they strive to create the next killer app, meeting potential backers and tech experts along the way. According to the new casting call, the opening season will be filmed in Los Angeles, from late 2016 to early 2017.

You have until 26 August to apply at planetoftheapps.com in the form of a 1-minute video. You must be over 18 and you must have an iOS, MacOS, TVOS or WatchOS app in development.

The show is produced by pop star and tech aficionado Will.i.am, with producers Ben Silverman and Howard Owens, who have worked on shows such as "American Gladiator" and "The Biggest Loser".

Apple is slowly following the likes of Netflix and Amazon with original shows such as this and "Vital Signs", a semi-autobiographical drama involving Dr. Dre to promote the Beats brand Dre sold to Apple in 2014.
