Welcome to CNET Australia's App of the Day, where you can see some of the coolest, silliest and most useful apps in action.
The developer behind the Final Fantasy games, Square Enix, has been playing it pretty smart by porting some of its older titles across to iOS. Now, finally, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (originally released on PSP) has been released on iPhone and iPad, to the delight of fans everywhere. The turn-based combat on an isometric grid is perfectly suited to the touchscreen, particularly the iPad's larger screen. If you haven't played it before, it's a turn-based strategy game where you move your individual units around a board to take down your enemies. Certain units can only move certain ways and execute certain attacks, so it's a bit like chess in that way, but with upgradeable weapons and a much more hands-on approach. It's really engrossing, especially for those who like micromanagement gameplay. Our only sticking point is the price — it's a rare game that comes in at nearly 20 bucks on the iTunes store. Unless you're a fan, you might want to wait for a price drop — just in case it's not your cup of tea.
