The glitch and its limited outage were first noticed Tuesday morning. The glitch occurred as the company was upgrading the interface to the AOL Web mail service. AOL confronted the problem Tuesday evening and believes the problem has been fixed.
"We firmly believe that the small technical glitch affecting a small percentage of users has been resolved," said AOL spokesman Nicholas Graham.
Graham said the glitch occurred as a result of the upgrade, which used "techniques" that conflicted with certain Web browser configurations. He would not elaborate on which Web browsers were causing problems.
One reader Wednesday afternoon said the service was still acting unreliably.
"It's been buggy and crummy since I first got it the other night," he wrote. "Now I can't get anything."
