Curt Sanford, group president for Lucent's InterNetworking Systems division, left at the end of last month, the company confirmed. InterNetworking Systems is largely comprised of the data networking equipment Lucent acquired from Ascend and is among the highest-growing divisions at the telecommunications equipment provider.
Janet Davidson, current vice president of North American sales and services at Lucent, will assume Sanford's duties. Davidson, 43, is a 23-year veteran of AT&T and Lucent.
News of Sanford's departure is significant because Ascend is expected to drive Lucent's growth in the booming data and Internet equipment market. Several other Ascend executives left the company at the time the $24 billion merger was finalized in June of last year and in the months afterward.
A Lucent representative said Sanford wanted to spend more time with his family. "It was a personal decision," the representative said.
