AMD chips in for video

AMD said it will support DivXNetworks' DivX Connected Certification Program.

Advanced Micro Devices is boosting its presence on the small screen.

The chipmaker on Wednesday said it will support DivXNetworks' DivX Connected Certification Program--an initiative designed to allow sharing of digital media between PCs and home electronics gear--on its AMD Athlon 64 processor line.

The AMD-DivXNetworks announcement follows AMD's Monday release of Alchemy Au1200, a low-power processor designed for personal media players, portable devices that can display content such as DVD movies.
