The old "Top Gear" team of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May reunite this Friday to the delight of gearheads everywhere in a new auto-focused series from Amazon called "The Grand Tour." To celebrate the occasion, Amazon's introducing a new skill for Alexa and offering its Prime service at a discount.
Amazon Prime normally costs $99 a year. Starting at 12 a.m. ET Friday, you'll be able to sign up for a year of Prime for $79 if you're a first-time user. In the UK the discount is from £79 to £59. The promotion lasts all day Friday until 11:59 p.m. PT. Prime gives you access to lots of streaming video content, as well as music and free shipping.
Alexa, the automated assistant built into popular devices like the Amazon Echo, is excited about "The Grand Tour" too. When you enable the Alexa skill via the app, your Echo will provide teasers on Thursdays before the weekly "Grand Tour" episode and offer a chance to play trivia about the episode on Saturdays. You can win a gift card if you play, and unlock extra video content if you get the questions right.
Even if you're not a car person, the $20 discount makes this as good of a time as any to jump into Prime if you haven't already -- though I'm bummed the discount doesn't apply to current customers.
