AltaVista hires marketing chief

AltaVista has tapped Fred Bullock as senior vice president and chief marketing officer for its Internet division. AltaVista said Bullock's responsibilities in this newly created position will include overseeing the development of new products and services for AltaVista's Internet search business. Before joining AltaVista, Bullock served as senior vice president of marketing for information security company Alchemedia Technologies. He also spent 14 years working at Apple Computer and is a founding member of the Silicon Valley International Business Forum. AltaVista is majority-owned by Net investment company CMGI. The company's announcement comes three months after it discontinued its free Web e-mail service as it renews its focus on search services.
