Albertsons.com to deliver to San Francisco

Albertsons.com is expected to unveil its home-delivery operations in the San Francisco Bay Area on March 20, sources close to the company said. The Internet division of brick-and-mortar grocer Albertson's will serve more than 170 neighborhoods in the Bay Area. The company's main competitor, Safeway, said this week that it was branching into San Francisco on Monday. The supermarket chains have raced to expand their Web operations after Internet-only grocers such as Webvan, HomeRuns.com and ShopLink.com were forced to shut down. Shoppers can register for Albertsons.com service and receive free delivery on their first order. Albertson's charges $9.95 for delivery.
