3Com announces restructured business units

3Com announced a new restructuring plan Monday as the company formed two independent units for its networking hardware and network adapter products. 3Com's new "business networking" unit, headed by the company's senior vice president of operations, John McClelland, will consist of networking equipment for small and midsized businesses such as Net-based phone systems and wireless networking companies. 3Com's new "business connectivity" unit will include network adapters used to connect office PCs to each other. Dennis Connors, a 3Com senior vice president, will become president of the new unit. With Monday's move, 3Com will split into three independent units that will share the same corporate infrastructure such as the same human resources and financial teams. 3Com previously turned its service provider business, CommWorks, into its own independent unit.
