$350 Lego Avengers Helicarrier is a 3,000-piece beast

The impressive flying craft from Marvel's Avengers universe makes an equally impressive debut in Lego form as a massive model with moving engines.

Lego Helicarrier
Loki had better watch out. Lego

Otherworldy creatures are threatening. Rogue supervillains roam the planet. Earth needs you to join S.H.I.E.L.D., and what S.H.I.E.L.D. really needs right now is an over-the-top flying aircraft carrier, the kind that can only exist in comic books, on film and, soon, in your house in Lego form.

Due this spring, the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier set features 2,996 pieces along with 12 microfigures sized to fit into the detailed interior. It comes with all the gear you need to enact a bustling scene aimed at supporting your Lego superheroes.

Fighter jets, Quinjets, forklift trucks, ground support vehicles, and two runways will keep you plenty busy. The finished Helicarrier sits on its own display stand and measures 31 inches long.

Lego is sending some Avengers minifigures along for the ride. The set includes Nick Fury, Black Widow, Captain America, Hawkeye and Agent Maria Hill, making her Lego minifig debut.

The Helicarrier first appeared in comic books back in 1965, but most modern fans are familiar with the versions seen in the more recent live-action Marvel movies. The Lego model is based on those Helicarriers. The finished creation has some fun moving elements. A hand-crank lets you turn the engines. It can also be paired with Lego Power Functions sets to run lights and rotors.

The set will be available in March for $350 (about £270, AU$450). That gives you enough time to put it together before "Avengers: Age of Ultron" hits theaters on May 1. You'll need your Lego Helicarrier operation skills to be in tip-top form if you expect to defeat a villain like Ultron.
