As Netflix and Amazon take on the TV networks, we pick some of the brand new shows we hope will be worth getting square eyes for.

It's often said that we're enjoying a golden age of television, and as online services take on the TV networks with their own shows it's true that in 2015 we are certainly going to be spoiled for choice. So we've rounded up 28 sci-fi, fantasy and otherwise geek-friendly TV shows coming soon to your television, tablet or wherever you want to watch.

As well as the BBC, ABC, AMC, HBO, SyFy and other TV networks, many exciting new shows make their debut online. Netflix, Amazon and the PlayStation Network will all screen new projects this year.

Comics fans are in for a treat this year: "iZombie", "Powers" and "Vixen" are brought to the small screen -- not to mention "Daredevil", "AKA Jessica Jones", "Luke Cage" and "Iron Fist", four interlinked series created in an incredibly ambitious collaboration between Marvel and Netflix.

"Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell" and "The Man in the High Castle" are among the bestsellers adapted this year. And the classics get another airing with new takes on Frankenstein and the story of Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Classic sci-fi movies "Westworld" and "12 Monkeys" get the remake treatment; it'll be interesting to see if they flesh out the story or if they're bloated retreads. Kids' classic "Thunderbirds" is revived for the CGI generation too. Meanwhile, fans of "The Walking Dead" and "Breaking Bad" get to enjoy spin-off series.

An array of talent is at work behind the camera: Tina Fey, Russell T. Davies, the Wachowskis, David Goyer, Charlie Higson, J. Michael Straczynski, Phil Lord and Chris Miller. And onscreen you've got heavyweights like Ed Harris, Patricia Arquette, Juliette Lewis, Jeffrey Wright, Matt Dillon, Daryl Hannah, Anthony Hopkins, Will Forte, Melissa Leo, Terrence Howard, Toby Jones and Freema Agyeman.

We've focused on projects that are definitely coming to TV this year, so we've had to leave out David Fincher's proposed remake of chilling UK show "Utopia", Seth Rogen's adaptation of demented comic classic "Preacher", and many other rumoured or developing shows. We've also had to leave out "River", in which Stellan Skarsgard plays a troubled cop, because it's not even vaguely sci-fi; but they filmed a scene outside CNET's London office the other day, so I'll probably watch it anyway.

Enough talking! Grab yourself a brew, put your phone on silent and resign yourself to square eyes -- there's lots to watch.
