How to customize auto-swipe in Mailbox for iOS, Android

Tired of waiting for auto-swipe in Mailbox to learn your habits when handling email? Here’s how you speed up the process.

Mailbox recently launched a new feature called auto-swipe. Over time, auto-swipe learns how you interact with emails from particular contacts or email lists, or that have specific subjects. In turn, the app can then start taking care of the messages automatically for you.

Meaning, if you consistently schedule an email from your boss for tomorrow morning, Mailbox will notice this and start scheduling it for you; forgoing the extra step of forcing you to act on a message.

Well, if you're like me and have been using the update since it launched late last month, you've likely seen the auto-swipe prompt a time or two, but are confused as to why it's not showing up on emails you routinely receive and deal with. I was confused until I figured out how to force Mailbox to use auto-swipe for a specific email thread(s) or contact(s).

  • When viewing an email you'd like to teach Mailbox how to handle in the future, long-press on one of the buttons at the top of the screen.

  • You'll be asked to select the trigger for how you'd like to handle the message, not only in this instance, but going forward.

This is an easy way to jump-start the auto-swipe feature in Mailbox. Now, where's the Mac version?
