Verizon Wireless 'Get It Now' launches
Verizon Wireless on Monday will offer a new service called "Get It Now," which lets its subscribers download games or business applications onto their cell phones, sources said. The nation's largest carrier also intends to introduce its third phone that can download software, the Motorola 720 which sells for about $200.
"Get It Now" is one of the several new services in which carriers sell downloads to cell phone owners. Sprint PCS and Nextel Communications have launched similar services. All generally charge between 99 cents and $5 to download a game or business applications. Carriers hope downloads will become a new source of revenue as they struggle through a two-year slump in cell phone sales.
