Visto wins injunction against Seven Networks

Wireless e-mail company also gets $7.7 million, but damages and injunction will be stayed pending appeals in patent case.

Wireless e-mail company Visto has been awarded $7.7 million in damages and an injunction on the sale of products by Seven Networks after winning a patent infringement case against Seven earlier this year. The damages and injunction will be stayed pending the appeals process, Visto said in a press release Wednesday.

The case involved patents held by Visto for wireless e-mail transmission, which was also the issue at hand in the long-running NTP versus Research in Motion case. Visto has also sued RIM, Good Technology and Microsoft, contending those companies are also infringing on its patents. Visto and NTP have signed a cross-licensing deal to each other's patent portfolio.
