Taiwan chipmaker Via Technologies announced at the Consumer Electronics Show a new design for embedded systems, or non-PC computing devices such as entertainment appliances. The Eden Embedded System Platform pairs Via's Apollo PLE133 or ProSavage PN133T processors with the North Bridge and South Bridge chipsets to combine central processing functions, graphics, audio and wireless and wireline connectivity in one package. Via touted the compact design and low power consumption of the Eden package as a good fit to run entertainment devices such as game consoles and digital video recorders, and business appliances such as retail point-of-sale terminals.
