SuSE releases firewall software

SuSE, a German seller of the Linux operating system, has released a new version of software for protective firewalls that can't be tampered with. Firewalls, though not invulnerable, are used to try to keep unauthorized computers out of corporate networks, home computers or other machines needing protection. The SuSE firewall product runs off a CD-ROM that unlike a hard disk can't be changed if an attacker takes over the system. System-specific information for the firewall is stored on a write-protected floppy disk that a remote computer can't change. The product costs $649, including 30 days of installation support and a 500-page manual.
