Supercomputer center gets new No. 2

Vijay Samalam has taken over as second-in-command at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, replacing Alan Blatecky.

Vijay Samalam has taken over as second-in-command at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, the research facility at the University of California at San Diego said Wednesday. Samalam joined SDSC in 2003; before that he was vice president for architecture and chief technology officer for Lucent Technologies' core switching division.

He replaces Alan Blatecky, who left in the spring, and reports to director Francine Berman, SDSC said.
