Sun funds encryption start-up

Sun Microsystems and others have provided $22 million in funding for Andes Networks, a start-up that offers technology for speeding up encrypted transactions over the Web. VantagePoint Venture Partners led the investment round, but earlier investors Sun, Infinity Capital and PacRim Venture Partners also joined the round, Andes Networks said Tuesday. In addition, Andes Networks has named Paul Gordon as president and chief executive officer. The company plans to begin testing its product in the second quarter and selling it in the third.
