Short Take: VeriSign can export 128-bit certificates
VeriSign has won U.S. approval to issue digital certificates, which vouch for the identity of Web servers on the Internet, using 128-bit encryption. For the first time, U.S.-based firms with servers in the United States, and international banks with servers in the United States and abroad, can use strong encryption internationally. VeriSign is the first certificate authority to meet government requirements to issue the 128-bit certificates for export.
