Short Take: Time Warner ups Scientific-Atlanta set-top commitment
Time Warner doubled its commitment to buying Scientific-Atlanta's digital TV set-top box to 1.1 million units, Scientific-Atlanta said in announcing its quarterly financial results. Previously, the cable broadcaster had agreed to buy 550,000 units of the next-generation Explorer 2000 over the next few years. Explorer 2000 will begin reaching cable customers in the third quarter of 1998; San Diego customers of Cox Communications will be among the first to use the set-top boxes to receive digital TV broadcasts.
