Sun Microsystems announced plans to ship a new version of Solaris targeted at intranets next month that the company hopes will be a competitor to Microsoft Windows NT. As previously reported, the move is intended to expand Solaris's reach from its current enterprise strength to touch vertical markets as well as smaller businesses. The new version costs $695 for a base five-license server and $1,290 for a full intranet implementation with add-on applications.
