Short Take: Software.net plans to go public

Software.net, an online retailer of programs and packaged software, said it plans an initial public offering worth as much as $51.75 million, according to Bloomberg. Based in San Jose, California, Software.net already has signed agreements with America Online, Excite, and Netscape to expand the reach of its marketing efforts.
