Microsoft has joined the Meta Data Coalition, an industry consortium of 47 software vendors aiming to define a standard specification for interchange of data between development tools, and will transfer rights to maintain and evolve the Microsoft Open Information Model (OIM) to the group. OIM defines a way to exchange data, using Microsoft technologies including COM, as well as SQL and Java, Microsoft said.
