IBM today unveiled a cryptographic coprocessor to handle the intensive computations for secure payments. The 4758 PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor/Adapter provides special purpose hardware to encrypt and decrypt Internet payments so they can be moved faster and more securely. The programmable coprocessor is SET-enabled and supports multiple cryptographic algorithms. Now in beta testing, the new coprocessor is due to ship in late August 1997. No pricing was announced.
