Short Take: FDA lists medical device makers with possible Y2K troubles

The Food and Drug Administration is preparing a list of medical device makers with products that could have Y2K problems, according to a government official. Health and Human Services deputy secretary, Kevin Thurm told the Senate Special Committee on the Year 2000 Technology Problem that the FDA also may issue public warnings or suggest voluntary recalls if the agency finds medical devices that could malfunction on January 1, 2000. In some cases, he said, dangerous devices will be seized.
