Short Take: E*Trade doubles Q1 revenues and profits

E*Trade reported a doubling of its first-quarter revenues and profits. After the online brokerage announced that its revenues rose to $51.1 million, up from $25 million a year ago, and that its profits reached $4.9 million, up from $2.3 million reported in the year-ago period, its shares rose in morning trading. At the end of December, the company had about 325,000 accounts, up 188 percent over a year ago.
