Short Take: Compaq announces no-name notebook

Compaq Computer next week will unveil a new portable for the government and education markets. The brandless model, dubbed Notebook 100, comes with a 475MHz AMD K2-6 processor, 12.1-inch display, 4MB of video memory, 5GB hard drive, 24X CD-ROM drive and 56k modem for $1,099. The Houston-based PC maker is positioning the Notebook 100 against no-name models built by local dealers.
