Short Take: AMD settles trade secret litigation

Advanced Micro Devices has settled its lawsuit over trade secrets with Hyundai Electronics Industries, the company said. While AMD revealed few details of the settlement, the company said it won injunctive relief protecting AMD's "flash" memory chips, which have distinguished themselves from common dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips because they retain stored data even if electrical power fails. AMD filed the suit in California's Santa Clara County Superior Court earlier this fall, alleging that the Korean company, which is the world's largest DRAM chip supplier, had hired away several of its employees in order to acquire confidential information about the chips.
