Online bookseller Amazon.com sent out a targeted email message to its customers updating them about changes in its service, including a Gift Center and gift certificates available by email and snail mail. Amazon is one of the few established online businesses that has risked being labeled a spammer for sending out mass email. But the company maintains it only sends it out to customers, so it does not fall into the spam category.
