Short Take: 64-bit Unix takes shape
Hewlett-Packard and the Santa Cruz Operation today announced the availability of the final set of APIs for its "next-generation" 64-bit Unix initiative. As previously reported by CNET, the two companies have finalized an API matrix--previously code-named Lodi--that includes APIs from the current version's of HP-UX and SCO's OpenServer so that current applications will run on the new operating system, scheduled for delivery when Intel rolls out its 64-bit Merced microprocessors. The two companies have submitted the API set to the Open Group for review.
