Short: Circuit prevents illegal copying

SGS-Thomson Microelectronics of France and Macrovision Corporation of Sunnyvale, Calif. have developed an integrated circuit that prevents people from copying digital video, music, and other information from digital video systems such as DVD players. The system modifies the video signal so that it can be viewed on a TV set but not recorded on a VCR. Any attempt to record a copy-protected signal results in a copy which is unviewable.
