Quarterdeck makes migration to 32-bit processing
Hoping to break out of a half-year slide, Quarterdeck unveils 32-bit upgrades to two of its main products today.
Suffering from two straight losing quarters and a sales decline that company officials have attributed to slow product upgrade cycles, Quarterdeck announced new versions of communications software Procomm Plus and memory enhancer MagnaRAM.
Procomm Plus, which began as software for dialing into private networks and bulletin boards, has evolved into a broader communications package with fax and Internet email capability as well.
At the end of the month the company will release a new 32-bit version of Procomm Plus for Windows 95 that adds remote control capabilities to let users access their PCs from remote locations. The feature includes drag-and-drop file transfers, encryption for all data exchanged, and password settings.
Procomm Plus for Windows 95 will have a street price of $139.
The company also announced MagnaRAM 97, an upgrade of its memory enhancement utility that speeds the loading of 32-bit applications in Windows 95 and recovers under-used memory from hard drive caches. Street price is estimated at $39.95.
