Quadruple your workstation pleasure
Intergraph is preparing to introduce ground-breaking personal workstations in early November, including the first four-processor Pentium Pro-based personal workstation.
The new lines from Intergraph, an established workstation vendor, will cover a wide range of performance and price levels all the way from a $1,495 Pentium model to a machine packing four 200-MHz Pentium Pro processors that will start at $13,500.
The "quad" (four-processor) TD-610 system is targeted at applications that are multithreaded, according to sources familiar with the announcement. For $13,500, a TD-610 will come with four processors, 32MB of ECC RAM, and a 1GB hard drive.
Other features standard to the new TD personal workstations include an Ultra SCSI disk subsystem, 10 PCI and ISA expansion slots, an 8X CD-ROM drive, and integrated 10/100Base-TX Ethernet controllers, sources said. Up to 1GB of ECC RAM can be supported on the new systems.
The TDs will have an integrated G95 3D graphics accelerator with up to 8MB of WRAM, while an Intense 3D accelerator with up to 16MB of SRAM for use in animation or 3D modeling will be optional, according to sources.
Three models, including the four-processor model, will be offered. For example, the TD-310 with 32MB of ECC RAM and a 2GB hard disk drive is expected to be priced at $4,995. All systems will ship with Windows NT 4.0.
Intergraph is also planning on introducing two new entry-level personal workstations that will be aimed for use in 2D drafting and light CAD applications. The TD-20 will have a 100-MHz Pentium with 16MB of RAM, 1GB hard drive, and Windows 95 for an expected price of $1,495, the sources noted. A TD-200 with Pentium Pro processor and Windows NT is expected to have a starting price of $2,595.
The new systems should be available in October, the sources added.
