Bayer has signed a one-year license agreement for e-commerce applications from PurchasePro, the companies said Tuesday. The application, called PurchasePro e-Source, enables companies to collect electronic bids on contracts from their suppliers and negotiate with them online. PurchasePro, which also operates online exchanges and sells software for automating purchasing and for building online exchanges, released a new version of its auction software last month and has sold it to several large customers this year, including industrial manufacturers Honeywell and Timken. The customer wins are a sign that the company, which struggled with accounting problems and a downturn in business last year, is having more success selling software to large companies than it has operating online exchanges.
